WHAT JESUS TAUGHT ABOUT HEAVEN? ( PART 13 )
WHY DO WE SAY HEAVEN IS IN OUR HEART?
We live in a beautiful world, but it’s not our true home.
As believers in Christ, Heaven is our true home.
We read in Philippians 3:20: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” We may live here on earth, but our citizenship is in heaven. In our hearts we know that is where we really belong.
But how can we be homesick for a place we’ve never been to? Because heaven, our true home, has come to us. Heaven is God’s dwelling place, and God has put heaven in our hearts through the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.
The Bible says: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Behold the old has gone, the new has come.” ( 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Indeed we are new creations in Christ. We have not yet come to the new creation, but the new creation has come to us. We have the firstfruits of the Holy Spirit in us, giving us a sense of our eternal home. So we must wait patiently for the final redemption of our bodies that we may be fit to enter Heaven.
Abba Father, Your Word says: “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” (Romans 8:24-25).
This world is not right because of sin, and we are not right because of sin, and so we groan along with the rest of creation as we wait for our eternal home and for our final redemption.
Romans 8 tells us the following: “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.” (Romans 8:22-23).
Meanwhile, let Heaven remain in our hearts as it casts a vision of our glorious future in Heaven in our new glorified bodies.
