LESSONS ON HEAVEN ( PART 10 )

IS BELIEF IN HEAVEN JUST ESCAPISM?

Throughout history, believers have been criticized by non-believers that their belief in heaven is really just escapism - or a psychological crutch to help people deal with this world. They argue heaven is not real but a coping mechanism.

But they are wrong. It is real hope for believers who know and have experienced the trials and tribulations of this world.

To believe in heaven is not to ignore the world. It means that we long for a better and eternal world.

In Colossians 3:2, Paul exhorts us to: "set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth".

Abba Father, Paul who penned the aforesaid command was anything but escapist. In heaven, every person will be equal. All political, ecclesiastical, and social structures ( including marriage and family) will cease to exist. We now see but dimly but in Heaven, we shall behold our resurrected Saviour face to face in all His radiant brightness and glory ( 1 Cor. 13:12 ). The best is yet to come. Thus we can presently sing the hymn with full assent:  "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow ".
