Lesson 3220

LESSONS ON HEAVEN ( PART 14 )

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR EARTHLY AND SPIRITUAL BODIES? ( PART 2 )

The following are my personal viewpoints and not meant to challenge any other dissenting opinion.

1. Even before Jesus' death and resurrection, He promised His disciples they would gather at His banquet table and feast with Him during the Millennial Kingdom. " Just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I will grant you that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom" ( Luke 22:29-30 ).

In the Bible there are three specific occasions recorded when our resurrected Lord shared a meal with His disciples - with the two disciples at Emmaus when he broke the bread before them, with His disciples in the Upper Room when Thomas no longer doubted His resurrection, and when He cooked breakfast for His disciples by the Sea of Galilee ( John 21:12 ).

But the event He prophesied in Luke 22 will occur during the Millennium after the disciples' own resurrection when they are living in their new bodies.

His promise indicates that we too will share meals with Him and the disciples in our new bodies.

2. It looks like we will also wear clothes in heaven.

A. When John saw the resurrected Christ on Patmos, Jesus was "clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash" (Rev.1:13 ).

B. When Christ spoke to the church at Sardis, He told them: " He who overcomes will this be clothed in white garments" ( Rev.3:5 ), which John witnessed with his own eyes ( Rev.7:9 ).

C. When the Bride of Christ ( the Church ) is presented to Jesus at His Second Coming, we will be clothed in " fine linen, bright and clean " ( Rev.19:8 ).

D. As a conquering King at His Second Coming to finalise His war with evil, He will be " clothed with a  robe dipped in bood. ( Rev. 19:13 ).

3. Though we cannot be too sure, some theologians believe our bodies will be resurrected at an ideal, youthful and mature age - say thirty ( 30 ) which is considered the peak of perfection, both mentally and physically. It was the age when Old Testament priests began their ministry in the Temple and when Christ began His public ministry.

Abba Father, it is difficult to comprehend what Heaven would look like much less in what guise we would appear in Your company together with Your angels and saints in Heaven. But to be in Your Presence forever is a consummation devoutly to be wished for and certainly something we most look forward to.
