Q n A about Heaven #2
Is there marriage in Heaven?
No.
Jesus taught that marriage was clearly a temporal union for this life.
The Sadducees did not believe in the afterlife. They asked the same question to trap Him - i.e. to force Him into taking sides with either them or the Pharisees ( who believed we would have the same relationships in heaven as on earth ).
Jesus rebuked them sharply. In Mat. 22:29-30 He said: " You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven".
For those who are already married, it does not mean you should neglect your marriage. Scripture elevates the importance of marriage and commands husbands and wives to seek to honour God through their marital relationships. They are heirs together of the grace of this life ( c/f 1 Peter 3:7 ).
But the institution of marriage is passing away - there are higher eternal values.
Abba Father, although our relationships will be perfect in heaven, there will be no marriage. As Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 7:29-31, the " form" ( literally "schema" from the Greek ) of this world is passing away. The relationships of this world, including marriage, will one day no longer exist. It is better to concentrate on the eternal things and values of the Lord for marriage is only a temporary provision.
