Lesson 3258

THE NEW JERUSALEM #3

What about our resurrection bodies in the New Jerusalem?

Paul taught in 1 Cor.15:1-19; 39-41 what our kind of resurrection bodies we will receive. Simply put, we will have a different body than the one we now inhabit. In verses 42-44 he wrote: " ...it is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body...". He made it clear that our resurrection bodies would be just as physical as our natural bodies are physical but with marked differences:

1. The spiritual body will not be subject to decay.

2. It will be free of sin.

3. It will be powerful.

4. It will be for the New Earth.

Such differences often lead to questions like whether we will eat, drink, or wear clothes in heaven. At what age will we be?

Since the resurrection body of Jesus is the pattern ( Greek: Protokos ) of our resurrection bodies, let us look to Him for the answers:

1. On three specific occasions,  He as the Resurrected Christ shared a meal with His disciples. He told them even before His resurrection that they will feast with Him during His Millennial kingdom. "Just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom" ( Luke 22:29-30 ).

2. When John saw the resurrected Christ on Patmos, Jesus was  "clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash " ( Rev.1:13 ). To the church at Sardis, He told them: " He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments" ( Rev.3:5) which John confirmed with his own eyes ( Rev. 7:9 ).

3. Though we cannot be sure, some theologians believe we will be in our thirties - the age when Old Testament priests began their ministry in the temple and when Christ began His public ministry.

Abba Father, we will have real, physical bodies but they will be free from sin and therefore free from disease, decay and death. To You be the glory!
