DEBORAH: A WOMAN OF FAITH

The bigger our problems seem, the more we need to realize how big our God really is.

Deborah was a shining example of a woman with faith in God, who arose as a light to her people. She turned many of her countrymen to serve God and have faith in Him at a time when it was sorely needed.

Judges 4:4-5 states: “Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. … And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.”

Deborah was truly remarkable: a judge, a military strategist, a poetess, and a prophetess who used her talents and giftings to glorify God.

She offers a bold and powerful role model for women today:

1. Deborah trusted God and in his Word. She understood that God alone is able to do what he says he will do.

2. Deborah was courageous. She was not only fearless in battle, but she was also wise.

3. Deborah demonstrated that God can accomplish great things through people who are willing to be led by Him. She also showed us that wise leaders should surround themselves with the right people – people who fear God.

4. Deborah was not a selfish person. She was concerned about people – not just her success.

5. Deborah gave ALL the glory to God. Whenever people praised her, she directed it to God.

Abba Father, throughout the Bible, we can discern that when leaders lose sight of You, the people lose sight of You as well. For everything rises and falls on leadership. Indeed her leadership galvanized her people as it was inspired by faith - the kind of faith that overcomes mountainous obstacles in our lives.
