WHY HEAVEN? ( Part 2 )

From yesterday's devotion, we learned that Heaven should be of daily significance - as the destination in our road map from here to eternity.

1. When we as believers realise our citizenship is in Heaven, we begin acting as responsible citizens on planet Earth. Heaven is already in our heart as the song goes.

2. We invest wisely in relationships because we know they have eternal significance.

3. Our conversations, goals, and motives become pure and honest because we realise these will have a bearing on our everlasting reward.

4. We give generously of our 5 T's:

A. Time

B. Talent

C. Treasure

D. Torso ( Energy )

E. Temple ( as guardians of the church and of our own bodies )

because we are laying up treasure for eternity.

5. We spread the good news of Christ because we long to fill Heaven's ranks with our friends, loved ones and neighbors.

All this serves us well not only in Heaven but also on Earth for it serves everyone around us.

Abba Father, You will help us to redeem the time for the days are evil. You will enable us to walk circumspectly not as fools but as wise men and women ( Ephesians 5:15  ). Time is a precious commodity not to be frittered away doing our own thing. We sometimes do not even realise that life on Earth is all going to end. But the psalmist in Psalm 119: 19  knew he was merely a sojourner or stranger on Earth. Indeed the world is not our home; we are just passing through. Paul said it best in Romans 8: 22-23 -

" For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body". The body Paul speaks of is the resurrection body that we will have in Heaven, but the longings are those of this Earth.
