LESSON ON FAITH ( PART 8)
THE THREE STAGES OF SANCTIFICATION: (PART 1)
2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to "Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." ( New Living Translation ).
Theologically there are 3 Stages of Sanctification:
1. Positional Sanctification
2. Progressive Sanctification
3. Final Sanctification.
To be sanctified means to be set apart as holy, which is what happens to sinners who are saved from sin by the grace of God through the gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8–9).
1. At the moment of salvation, we are sanctified or set apart positionally; that is, we are saved from the ultimate penalty of sin.
2. Then begins progressive sanctification, the process whereby we are saved from the practice and power of sin.
3. And after this physical life is over, we will be sanctified finally; that is, we will be saved from the presence of sin.
Abba Father, we need to understand how to get to heaven. This is something that we need to be taught again and again. For if we remain in Christ, after we are born-again, and lead a life of obedience to His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome the power of sin that remains in our old Adamic nature which bars our way to heaven.
Thus we pray Paul's affirmation in Philippians 1:6 "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns" ( New Living Translation ).
