The Fruit of the Spirit: Gentleness #2
Gentleness, also translated as “meekness,” does not mean weakness. It is simply put - "strength under control".
In other words, you may have the strength or authority to vanquish or judge your enemies for all their wrongdoings but you desist because you are God-fearing and mindful of His Word: " Vengeance is Mine".
Jesus gave us the perfect picture of Gentleness: “See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey” (Matthew 21:5). He did not ride a warhorse denoting conquest and victory but a lowly donkey when He entered Jerusalem during the Feast of Passover for all the Jews gathered there to welcome Him with acclamations of "Hosanna".
Now He offers us His gentleness as a gift. If we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, we will be filled with the fruit of gentleness.
Abba Father, to be gentle is to recognize that Your ways and thoughts are higher above our own (Isaiah 55:9). It is to humbly realize that our worldviews are shaped by exposure to sin and the misinterpretation of experience. It is to accept Your worldview, reflecting the truth about the spiritual and the material worlds. It is to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit as He matures our talk to match our walk.
For it really takes a strong but merciful believer to be truly gentle.
