The Fruit of the Spirit: Faithfulness #3
WHY FAITHFULNESS?
From the previous devotions, the importance of being faithful to God and to each other is a lesson worth repeating.
It is one thing to simply believe in Him, but another to trust and remain faithful to Him especially through tough times and challenging situations.
For when we are truly faithful to God, it will shape and determine the way we live.
For example, once we are able to discern God's faithfulness in our lives, we are able to be loyal in our relationships here on Earth and truly love others.
But faithfulness requires us to submit our ways to God. It comes from a place of realizing that we are in need of a Savior and a Role Model whose ways are higher than ours and who is indefinite control of our lives.
Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
We are to be faithful to God because He is faithful to us and He knows best.
In the New Testament, we can grow in our faithfulness by having a personal relationship with Christ. If we are truly faithful to Him and obey His commands, this will be evident in our lives.
In the Old Testament, Abraham and Sarah waited many years for God to fulfill His promise of giving them a son. Because of her lack of faith, Sarah insisted upon Hagar, her maid, as the vessel to give birth to her son. This resulted in pain and conflict. However, when Abraham and Sarah put their faith in God, Sarah was able to give birth to Isaac despite being past the age of childbearing.
Abba Father, some believers think their "faith" is already strong. But current trials and tribulations may buffet, weaken, and "shipwreck" their faith. They do not realize they have to develop faith muscles and nurture their walk of faith so that it becomes an enduring trust in You. A relationship of trusting You even when You appear to be absent or silent will become our hope and blessed assurance that is akin to an unshakeable and tenacious faith in You. For Your Word reassures us that through faith and patience, we shall inherit all Your promises for us. ( Hebrews 6:12 ). Such is Your enduring legacy of faithfulness - and unfailing love - unto us.
