THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 3 )

KAVOD: The Hebrew Word for Glory ( Study #1 )

The Hebrew word, “Kavod” is one of the Old Testament words used for “glory” in the Bible.

"Kavod" literally means “heavy,”  but metaphorically it means one’s reputation or significance.

Humans have our own "Kavod", but the image of God that we bear is also "Kavod".

The meaning is clearer in the verb version of this word which is “Kaved.” "Kaved" means to speak or act in a way that brings "Kavod" to someone.

We are not just trying to help God look important. We are invited to increase God’s "Kavod", His reputation and honor. Whatever we do, we can do it to God’s honor and glory.

Abba Father, whenever Your Word uses the phrase "the glory of God", it can refer to Your greatness, honor, beauty, power, and light. In every case, "the glory of God" acknowledges  Your supreme strength and our need to both acknowledge and serve You. We are not called to be mindless sycophants mouthing endless praises to You but to be true worshippers who ascribe glory to Your Name by the very lifestyles we live. Thus Your glory is invested in us to shine forth as good testimonies to the praise and honour of Your most glorious Name.
