THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 20 )

Man's Life is like the glory of a flower

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. For all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth and the flower thereof falleth away. But the word of the Lord endureth forever” – (I Pet.1:23-25).

God uses the grass and flowers to show us how corruptible we are and to show us our mortality.

He compares our short, temporary life to grass and flowers. We are here today and gone tomorrow. Our flesh is like grass and all the glory of our lives is like the flowers that bless us for a short time and then are no more.

Yet there is one flower that holds out hope. The almond tree in Israel is the first to awaken from winter and bud and bloom. It heralds the approach of spring. It is the first to resurrect from death.

The Golden Candlestick ( Menorah ) of the Tabernacle of Moses and Solomon’s temple was engraved with almond flowers.

Jesus is the true Candlestick who gives light - and hope - to the dark and hopeless world. Jesus said in (John 8:12) “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

We are thus encouraged to believe the light of His Word and conquer the fear of death and dying, and receive the promise of everlasting life in His Name.

Abba Father, death is certain for all us if we do not go up in the Rapture first. “For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom.6:23). Indeed it is appointed unto men once to die. Yet You hold out the gift of eternal life to those who believe in Your Son our Lord. May Your mercy and grace go forth to seek and save the lost.
