THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 16)

THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 16)

David penned this psalm on the run from his son Absalom who usurped his throne.

"You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.” (Psalm 3:3)

1.God is my Glory

"Glory" in this context means honor, dignity, reputation, what we take pride in.

Even though David’s outward honor and glory as king was gone, even though he had had to flee in his own kingdom, he knew God was his true glory.

For our glory (what we take pride in), we are tempted to rely on worldly things or the fleshly self:

A. Possessions or wealth (circumstances),

B. Popularity, status, or the esteem of others (people), or success (ourselves) to fulfill our hopes and dreams—even ministry success!

2. God is the Lifter of my head

This is about the emotional effects of God's presence in our lives in the midst of our battle.

Even when our head is hanging low in despair, God is there to lift it up and give us joy.

For in the midst of the battle, God is there with and for us.

Abba Father, men find glory in all sorts of things - fame, power, prestige, or possessions.

David found his glory only in You - that You are the only One who can ultimately provide us with security, glory, and joy and peace.

As the prophet Jeremiah said in Jeremiah 9:23-24 :

This is what the Lord says:

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom

or the strong boast of their strength

or the rich boast of their riches,

24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:

that they have the understanding to know Me,

that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,

    justice and righteousness on earth,

    for in these, I delight,”

declares the Lord.
