THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 15 )

THE GLORY OF GOD ( PART 15 )

Jesus as the Glory of God ( Hebrews 1:3 )

The author of the Book of Hebrews revealed something utterly amazing - that Jesus is the Radiator and Imprint of God's character.

Hebrews 1:3 tells us: “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His ( God's ) nature.”

In the Old Testament, God’s glory is represented in terms of radiant brilliance. And when Jesus came down, He brought with Him the glory of God because He was God. That is why on the Mount of Transfiguration, “His face shone like the sun".

He is also the exact imprint of God's nature. His character is the character of God. Jesus is the “very nature of God,” “the image of the invisible God.” We do not have just information about God in Jesus. We have God in Jesus.

In Matthew 11, Jesus tells us about His heart. “I am gentle and lowly in heart.” Is that what you think the heart of God is like? It is because “no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.” Thus when we hear of Jesus’ heart, He is revealing God’s whole heart to us. God is so gentle that “a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench” (Isaiah 42:3) And He is so humble that He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:8). And these are not just words. This is the glory of God!

Abba Father, the phrase "the Glory of God" is loaded with meaning. We may cursorily read Hebrews 11 not realising its deep significance. For when Jesus was born, You came down. And He brought with Him Your radiance and imprint. Which means we do not have to wonder what You are like. We know what You are like because You revealed Yourself and Your character in Jesus.
