REVIEW OF THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT#5
When a believer is controlled by the Holy Spirit, he or she manifests:
1) UPWARD FRUIT ( towards God ): Love, Joy, Peace (Galatians 5:22)
2) OUTWARD FRUIT ( towards others )
(Galatians 5:22b) which consists of
patience,
kindness and
goodness, (faithfulness)
3) INWARD FRUIT ( towards self )
(Galatians 5:22-23)
made up of faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
1. UPWARD FRUIT OF LOVE, JOY, AND PEACE TOWARDS GOD
PEACE AS THE THIRD UPWARD FRUIT TOWARDS GOD
The third segment of the Fruit of the Spirit is PEACE.
To understand PEACE, two teachings must be learned and understood:
1. We must understand the nature of fruit-bearing especially how a fruit is produced.
A machine in a factory can never produce fruit. As it works, it turns out a mere product, but it could never manufacture fruit.
Fruit must grow out of life, and, in the case of the believer, it is the life of the Spirit (Gal. 5:25).
When you think of “works” you think of effort, labor, strain, and toil; when you think of “fruit” you think of beauty, quietness, the unfolding of life.
The flesh produces “dead works” (Heb. 9:14), but the Spirit produces living fruit. Fruit has in it the seed for still more fruit (Gen. 1:11).
In short, PEACE comes from the Prince of PEACE who is in us - "Christ in us the hope of glory" ( Col.1:27 ).
But this outworking of the fruit of PEACE ( the life of Christ in us ) comes about by the ministry of His Holy Spirit.
2. Like Joy, PEACE has no relationship to circumstances.
Believers can have PEACE, not because they are oblivious to circumstances, but because they have confidence in God, who “causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
There is absolutely no reason for a believer to be anxious or afraid. That is why Paul explained to the Philippians in
Philippians 4:6-9
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and
received and heard and seen in me- practice these things, and the God of PEACE will be with you."
Abba Father,
it is the duty of believers to seek PEACE with all on principles of righteousness.
In accordance with the Spirit and teachings of Christ, they should do all in their power to put an end to the war.
The supreme need of the world is the acceptance of Jesus' teachings in all affairs of people and nations, and the practical application of His law of Love.
Then only can the segments of the fruit of Joy and PEACE manifest in all their fulness.
Only then will the trio of Love, Joy, and PEACE come in perfect alignment with Your will for Planet Earth.
