3 REVELATIONS OF YHVH'S NAME GIVEN TO MOSES #11

YHVH M'KADDESH ( PART 2 )

God did not call the Israelites out of from their bondage in Egypt to be snared by the temptations of the Canaanites.

His people knew they were headed into a land of milk and honey - but it was also a land of temptation steeped in idolatry.

The Israelites had to contend with and be tested by the hedonistic culture of the Hittites, Amorites, Jebusites and many other "ites".

God did not want His people to succumb to the standards of the Canaanites when they arrived in His Promised Land.

So He told them to " Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God." ( Leviticus 20:7 ).

They were thus commanded to be holy as He was holy - to be His people who belonged to Him and who will represent Him on the earth.

Was this command  just as applicable to New Testament saints?

Yes for we too are commanded to be as holy. 1 Peter 1:16 ( quoting Leviticus 11:44)  states: "As it is written, " You shall be holy, for I am holy."

The problem is we can't be holy on our own.

That is why we need YHVH M'Kaddesh ( The Lord Our Sanctifier ).

Our Lord God is a HOLY God who alone can make us HOLY.  

As 2 Peter 1:3-4 says: " He has given us everything we need for life and godliness and has made it possible for us to participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the 

world caused by evil desires."
