YHVH NISSI ( Part 5 )
We see Jesus as YHVH Nissi twice in the Bible - at His First and Second Coming of Christ.
1. AT JESUS' FIRST COMING
The Cross became our Banner: our first rallying point in Jesus.
If we look to Him by faith at His finished work on the Cross and confess His Lordship over our lives, we will come under the protection of His covering and conquering Love and overcome the poisonous sting of satan, sin, and death.
2. AT HIS SECOND COMING.
Let us read the prophecy of Christ's Second Coming in Isaiah 11:1-10.
"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots, a Branch will bear fruit. (2) The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD-- (3) and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what He sees with His eyes, or decide by what He hears with His ears; (4) but with righteousness, He will judge the needy, with justice He will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth; with the breath of His lips, He will slay the wicked. (5) Righteousness will be His belt and faithfulness the sash around His waist. (6) The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. (7) The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. (8) The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. (9) They will neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. (10) In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a BANNER for the peoples; the nations will rally to Him, and His place of rest will be glorious."
Did you see that last verse? This root of Jesse (who was King David's father) will be a BANNER (Nissi) for the peoples and the nations will rally to Him!
Who is this descendant of David who will be our Banner of God?
None other than Yeshua whose titular name was "Son of David."
What a day that will be! Imagine all the world going up to see the King of kings!
Imagine the whole world at rest and in glory in His reign!
On that day He alone will be lifted up and His Name alone the only one! (Zech 14:9) - the Name above all names!
Just reading these scriptures again makes me among many others long even more for that glorious day!
Conclusion
Our Christian walk began with a spiritual battle for our souls - where the Banner of Christ invited us to come under His reign and rule away from the Kingdom of Darkness that enveloped us.
We acknowledged and experienced Christ as our Redeemer - as we saw our great need of His salvation by humbly coming before His Cross and looking at Him, the sinless Saviour, lifted up and taking the poisonous bite of sin on our behalf.
This is our initial rally point and victory.
Then our growth in spiritual maturity began - after our salvation.
We began to experience more of the One who is our Victor whether the opposition comes from without or within.
Each day there is a need to come back to our rallying point and that Banner that we rally to is the Person of Christ.
In the End Times, we must not lose our focus on the centrality of the Cross - the Person of our Gracious Saviour.
For Jesus indeed is our great YHVH NISSI the glory and lifter of our heads whose banner over us is His Everlasting Love.
