THE LIVES OF THE PATRIARCHS #102

THE LIFE OF MOSES #84

Lesson from the Red Sea Crossing #6

God's Greatest Miracle

Every commentator says this is God's greatest miracle in the Bible.

If so what life-transforming lessons have we learnt from it?

Let's put our thinking caps on and consider the highlights!

- God's mighty hand moved over 2 million people over a mile on dry land, while the waters on both sides of the tower to their sides.

- When the last person crossed, the waters closed up behind them, drowning Pharaoh’s Army, closing a chapter forever of bondage, slavery, past.

Thus God brought His people out of their slavery in Egypt when they trusted Him by faith.

When we trust the promises of God, He proves Himself faithful every time.

The presence of God's glory cloud was not simply camouflaging for Israel, also protection as a rear guard.

The presence of God that was light for the Israelites became darkness for the Egyptians.

What was salvation for the Sons of Israel was judgment for the Pharaoh’s Army.

The ancient Jewish historian Josephus gives an interesting bit of information (Antiq. II. 349 [xvi.6]) that upon God destroying the Egyptians in the crushing walls of water, the eastern wind shifted directions.

The wind that had parted the sea, dried the ground then turned and blew the bodies of the drowned corpses to the shore that Moses & Israel now stood.

As the bodies of the soldiers came ashore, the Israelites took the weapons off the Egyptian corpses.

These would have been weapons that their oppressor would have used to slay, wound, kill them. Israel took those swords, spears, knives and took them into battles against the Amorites, Amalekites, Og, King Balak, Midianites, Moabites, Jericho.

Two Spiritual Lessons

1. When God is in the lead... He protects His CHOSEN.

2. When God is in the lead, He provides His COMPASSION.

God saw the affliction of the Israelites in Egypt (Exodus 3:7-8 ) and said: "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land..."

Conclusion

Let us recap the two promises that we find when God takes the lead in our lives:

1. He protects His Chosen.

2. He provides His Compassion.

When facing the sea, the Israelites thought their world was falling apart when it was actually falling into place.

God was on the throne and all they had to do was trust and obey Him to show His care & compassion.

Emboldened by faith, let us unsheathe the sword of Scripture with our testimonies as the weapons of our spiritual warfare.

1. Joy

Psalm 30:5 (NASB) “. . . Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

2. Health

(Psalms 147:3 NKJV) He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. . .by His wounds I am healed (Isa. 53.3).

3. Family & Finances

Jeremiah29.11" For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Isaiah 54:17 (NASB) "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper, And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.

What the devil uses against you, intended for your destruction, will be a weapon in your hand to fight back!

Romans 8:31 (NASB) What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

We don't run away from Pharaoh's chariots. We confront and disarm them with the Sword of the Spirit and the Word of God.

The offense is our best defense - that is the best lesson we can learn from the greatest miracle in the Bible.
